PCI DSS BASICS -
AN OVERVIEW OF THE PAYMENT CARD INDUSTRY |
 |
Abstract
Not a day goes by without news of a high-profile credit
card data loss. Long before these data breaches made
the news on a regular basis, Visa created a private
standard known as the Cardholder Information
Security Program (CISP). Then in 2004 Visa, American
Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB
International and MasterCard Worldwide joined forces
to create a new and more comprehensive set of
standards known as the Payment Card Industry Data
Security Standard (PCI DSS). If you process, store
or transmit credit card numbers, you must comply
with the requirements of PCI DSS or risk fines and
revocation of your ability to process credit card
payments.
